Algatech, a leading astaxanthin producer, has developed a proprietary cultivation process lasting approximately three months that mimics the accumulation of astaxanthin in nature. Cultivation begins with a "Green Phase" that ensures the algae enjoy optimal growing conditions, allowing maximum biomass growth over time. The algae are then transferred to an advanced, entirely glass photobioreactor system, where their growth is accelerated under the sun of the Arava Desert. Once they are fully developed, the "Red Phase" begins: the algae are exposed to harsh conditions, which create stress that causes them to form a hard shell and produce astaxanthin.
This state-of-the-art photobioreactor technology and proprietary cultivation process harness the stable, abundant solar radiation of the Arava Desert. MECHANISM OF ACTION
Astaxanthin protects the DNA of Haematococcus pluvialis microalgae from intense radiation and oxidative stress. Since astaxanthin's antioxidant effect is the mechanism underlying most of its observed benefits in biological systems, numerous studies have been conducted to evaluate and understand this property.
